We can now load answers and clues from a file off of your computer. This allows you to use the spell check that you are familiar with, and have access to all of the information available on your computer to create the information for the puzzle.

Create a plain text file with one answer and clue per line, separated by a colon (:). If you have non-ASCII characters in your character set, save the file as UTF-8.

Use the Browse button to select the appropriate file from your computer which you have prepared. Then use the Load Puzzle button to read in your file. At that point you can make changes to your selections and use the Make Puzzle button to create your puzzle.

There are three types of files that can be read:

• Plain text files -- Create a file that contains one answer and clue per line. The answer and clue are separated by a colon (':'). Save this as a plain text file. No formatting, no nothing, nothing to get confused on. Don't use any word processing program such as Word Perfect, Microsoft Publisher, etc. On Windows, you can use a program like Notepad.
• Microsoft Word *.doc or *.docx document -- Some people are confused about plain text files. If you create the file with Microsoft Word or other word processor and save the file as a DOC file, my transformation package might be able to make sense of it. No guarentees. Go back to previous format one to be sure. Again, one answer and clue per line separated by a colon. Don't save it as a .pub, or any format other than .doc, .docx, or plain text. If you save as a plain text file from Word, that works well.
• Previous puzzle as HTML -- Save your final puzzle to your disk when you get one you like. Transfer this file back and you get all of the settings such as words, fonts, etc. This won't read arbitrary HTML files, as this looks for particular information within the files we generate to extract the words and settings.
• No Others! -- I've had people attempt to send images, Microsoft Publisher, and a variety of other rather interesting formats. They won't work. If you have difficulties, go back to typing the words into the form provided.

Note that when you use one of these choices, the words used are only those from the file you selected.
